2D Mighty Eagle Sequence from The Angry Birds Movie

Hi people! It has been a while. I am cleaning this blog and actually wanting to use it again as a blog and separating it from my website. I think I am almost done doing all the prep.

While I was on The Angry Birds Movie as part of the team of Character Design, I was put also in charge as an Animation Supervisor for the 2D sequence of Mighty  Eagle. I was sent to Finland to work with Rovio Finland team to work on this nice piece. To see and read more of this great project you can go here: https://www.luisgadea.com/angry-birds-2d-sequence/

I hope I can be constant on the posts.

Today the same kind of exercise. The first 2 are from the same structure of the sketch.

The little basket ball girl

Just a few sketches of this little girl, still playing around with some shapes on the face. I want to keep the same structure of the body but just change the head.

Also I found this one I haven't post yet. THE FLINTSTONES which I love the texture's brushes on the fast actions.

And again looking in the back ups I found this old assignment I did on 3D about a book called ''El Planeta Robotizado'' by Joseph Berna. I will keep posting old works that I've done in the past.

VFS Flash class and more

Last Friday August 16th was the graduation of the second class that I have worked as a Teacher Assistant for the Flash class at VFS.  So far it has been an amazing experience. Being able to teach and at the same time help the students in their own short films. At the end I feel I'm the one who learns the most by adapting to each student with different stories in their own short films and different kind of approaches to explain the things to them. They did a really amazing job in their Flash films.

I have been busy working in a music video for a Spanish band. I can't post anything yet but as soon as I finish I will put some frames from the animation.

I was looking in my computer back ups for a plug in to use in this music video and I found an old storyboard about red riding hood I did back when I was in Costa Rica studying 3D.  I don't know why this tale has been always from my interest. So here are just a few pages of the story I was developing.

What I enjoy the most from this project was that I gave to the entire storyboard the mood. The pages as you can see where design according to the story. So at the end it was more like a storyboard art book.

So yesterday I took  half an hour to do this quick visual developing of Red Riding Hood.

(You can also take a look to the other version of Red-Riding-Hood I did last year).

Week on Sketchbook

Having fun with my ''Toned'' sketchbook. I dig the fact that white is not the base colour and I just use it as a light kind of thing. I normally use it as a one side contour line.

The second image is one week of doodles during the night on my normal sketchbook. (not counting the first image of that sequence which is digital ).

God of Thunder

Click on image for better resolution

The God of Thunder. This is a poster I had for a while waiting to be paint. I've been having a lot of fun working as a Storyboard Clean up/Revisionist  in the new Avengers Assemble series. So I decided to make a fan art. It has been a great experience, specially to improve my drawing skills on this ''american comic style'' characters.
You can check some AVENGERS ASSEMBLE promo clip here.
I also asked 2 other artists to paint this drawing, so hopefully I can see someone else interpretation on the colouring soon.

Next some making of this drawing, hopefully it helps someone somehow.

Here is how the composition and colours work.
Composition (green): I put the attention on the center of the image.  I used the elements like: mountains, cape and the thunders to point towards Thor's head-chest. Now, the thunders work a bit different because they point to the Mjolnir (hammer) then from there the arm brings us again to Thor's head-chest.
Colour (red): Again the colours meet in the center of the drawing. It travels from the Blue all the way to the Yellow meeting each other in the center.

Next is a process from Sketch all the way to Final, really straight forward.

More Acrylic

Another Sunday with Acrylics. This time trying more colors and filling more the page, not worrying about cutting the drawing out of the page. Also painted every part with a different tool: some brushes, napkins, by finger and some charcoal for whites.

CYM and G #2

Here are the next 4 of this serie. I'm trying to incorporate animals on my drawings in general. This weekend I will be posting some other stuff , hopefully later on today.

I watched a couple of documentaries this week. Here is one that I really enjoyed about Salvador Dalí. He is a truly inspiration and a genius.

CYM and G

I'm testing silhouettes and brushes on PS. First I painted a random shape with a neutral colour, then I started taking out specific shapes for the characters.  Also decided to add fur to them and at the end I based them on Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and the Green colour. Im working on 4 more.

Sketchbook Images

After a crazy month with a lot of work, finally I can put together some stuff to upload. I was for the first time TA of the Flash class at VFS. It was a pleasure for me to help out the students in their Flash films.  They did a really great job on them. Here is a little picture I took on their grad to say Congratulations to them!.

Here are some images of my sketchbook that I've been taking on Instagram. ( You can follow me by clicking the right tab of the screen). I've been mixing all kind of media for these drawings with pieces of songs from my playlist.
